Hornbeck in these verses has referred the people of Hillsboro to be the gullible type. He thinks that they will disobey what has been told to them such as Adam did with the fruit. He uses the Tree of knowledge to give a name to these people and he says that you will find some ignorant people, but you wont find anyone smart enough to know right from wrong.
